What Are Quick Molded Parts and How Can They Benefit Your Business?

Quick Molded Parts, also known as rapid molded parts, are commonly created through the manufacturing of small batches of plastic products. This can include short runs or prototyping and is a popular manufacturing process due to its many advantages—from improving efficiency to lowering your costs.  Let’s explore Quick Molded Parts in depth.

What Are Quick Molded Parts?

To create Quick Molded Parts, standard injection molding equipment and techniques are used, however, the process is done with shorter turnaround times and at a lower cost. The molds used are typically made of aluminum, allowing them to be created quickly and at a decreased price—which assists in increasing the speed of this process.

Quick Molded Parts are ideal for prototypes or the production of short-run and limited items up to 250 parts. The process is also suitable for small and simple parts not exceeding 3” x 3” x 2”.

How Does It Work?

First, the Quick Molded Parts mold must be created. This is generally a quick process, as the mold is made from an easy-to-machine material such as aluminum. Then, the two halves of the mold are mounted onto the stationary and moving plates of the injection molding machine.

Once the machine is set up, the desired polymer is fed into the barrel. Here it is heated and melted. A screw in the barrel pushes the molten polymer through a nozzle and the pressure then causes the polymer to fill the mold. As the polymer cools, it solidifies in the shape of the mold. Once fully cooled, the mold opens and ejects the product.

Benefits of Quick Molded Parts Molding

Repeatability

Even though the mold is created with affordable materials, they are still high quality and durable. This allows you to continue to use the same mold to create up to 250 parts. The molds will continue to function properly up to this number of parts because they can withstand the pressure and temperatures associated with the process. This will save you time and money because you won’t have to continually replace molds.

Test Different Materials

The process allows you to test up to 15 different materials for your products. These included various thermoplastics, elastomers, and composites. The aluminum mold is compatible with any of these materials, and it gives you the ability to make sure you are using the perfect material to create your products.

Highly Efficient

The molds used in this process are created quickly and with affordable materials, speeding up the process from the start. Additionally, the injection molding production process is significantly faster than other options such as CNC machining. When you can get your products produced faster, you can see your profits sooner.

Low Cost

There are many ways in which Quick Molded Parts can save you money. The first is the mold. Again, it is created from aluminum, which is one of the most affordable materials on the market. After the mold is created, you just need to pay for the injection molding process. You then receive a high-quality product in the exact amount you need. The low-volume production is much more cost-effective and efficient than high-volume runs and other manufacturing processes.
